The religious right is trying to block the nomination of Judge David Hamilton because he stood up for the separation of church and state. Stand up for him and urge the Senate to confirm Judge Hamilton

Judge David Hamilton was nominated by President Obama to the 7th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, and his nomination may come to a full vote this week. Although Judge Hamilton is a highly qualified nominee, he has come under fire by conservative groups as being "anti-religion" for an opinion he wrote for a legislative prayer case, Hinrichs v. Bosma. In the case, Judge Hamilton ruled that the Indiana legislature's fundamentally Christian invocations were an unconstitutional violation of the Establishment Clause. His ruling followed clear precedent set by the Supreme Court and other federal courts, and upheld important constitutional mandates. Yet, he is being attacked for his principled ruling by a select few whose radical ideas about of the separation of church and state aren't shared by the majority of Americans.

The Senate is expected to vote for cloture tomorrow, November 17, but some Senators have threatened to vote against this motion. Please write to your Senators and ask them to support Judge Hamilton by voting for cloture and confirming his nomination when it comes to a full vote.
